Mandate
Diploportal has several goals:
- To provide a collaborative Web portal serving the diplomatic community.
- To detail consular and trade services throughout the World, along with statistics and charts detailing country trade.
- To provide sets of consistent Web pages, with templates to allow mission staff to add their own material, including current news, country data, trade information, useful links, biographies and contacts, imagery and so on.
- To expand Diploportal to cover all countries and their missions and trade offices abroad.
- To provide parallel versions in languages other than English.
- To provide the community with sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
Techniques
- The site will use templates and transclusion to ensure consistency and standards.
- Countries and missions willing to add and manage their own material will be able to use substitution templates we provide to lay out their home page and add additional sections.
Security
- Navigation pages and templates will be locked, but the balance of the site will be open to missions and groups who request a UserID and password.
- Subscribers can alert themselves by RSS to any changes in their pages.
- Errors, tampering and deletions can be corrected by simply backing up to previous pages.
- Users not following the rules can be banned indefinitely.
Premium Services
- The producers can assist countries and missions with setting up their own premium services.
- The producers can assist missions in building their own national language portals, with multilanguage versions.
- The producers can provide full video services for an additional fee. Otherwise, users can provide YouTube, Google Video or other services. See the Diploportal Audiovisual Gallery for an example.
